5TH ANNUAL UASC GARAGE SALE RAISES THOUSANDS
5TH ANNUAL UASC GARAGE SALE RAISES THOUSANDS TO HELP WITH MLPA EFFORTS
Hundreds turned out on a clear, warm Southern California winter day to show their support for United Anglers of Southern California and gather up armloads of fantastic deals on donated rods, reels, terminal tackle and other sporting goods items at UASC’s 5th Annual Garage Sale Fundraiser. The event took place Sunday, December 3rd at the new Turner’s Outdoorsman warehouse facility in Ontario, and thanks to strong industry support and the hard work of dozens of volunteers, it was a huge success from everybody’s perspective.
With all eyes focused on the coming implementation of the Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA) in Southern California, UASC is focused on raising awareness of the situation and raising the funds that will be needed to tilt the balance in the favor of recreational fishermen.
“We put the call out for the industry to support our efforts, and they really stepped up to the plate,” said UASC President Tom Raftican. “Dozens of manufacturers donated truckloads of tackle and sporting goods products to support our MLPA efforts. “We have a winnable, well-thought-out plan to lead the MLPA back on track and ensure recreational fishing access in California. However, it’s going to take hard work and financial resources to make it happen. It’s extremely gratifying to us to see the industry pulling out the stops and doing its part to help,” added Raftican.
“We’re particularly grateful to Don Small and Mark Lemons of Turner’s Outdoorsman. They not only let us use their new warehouse facility, they provided plenty of great sporting goods products for our sale,” said Victor Mendez, UASC Event Coordinator.
There were many other major contributors who made this successful event possible. Shimano American Corporation donated hundreds of new fishing rods that were gobbled up by the public at steep discounts. Calstar, Seeker, Okuma, Coleman, Lead Master and many other companies in the tackle and sporting goods industry contributed generously and helped create a great fundraiser.
This annual event featured bargains on much more than just fishing tackle — it was a cornucopia of delights for anybody into outdoor sports and recreation. Everything from hunting gear and accessories, to golf clubs, kayaks and inflatable boats, camping gear and clothing was offered to the public. As is tradition, UASC members were let through the gates 30 minutes early to score the best deals as a reward for their ongoing support. Those who wished to could sign up or renew their memberships on the spot to gain early admittance.
Anglers who weren’t able to attend the annual Garage Sale Fundraiser, but still want to contribute to UASC’s MLPA efforts, can contact the organization’s headquarters at (949) 863-9447 or visit www.unitedanglers.com to learn how they can help.
