ANGLERS IN UASC “NO MOTOR” TOURNAMENT ENJOY SUNNY SKIES, FLAT SEAS AND CHALLENGING WINTER FISHING
ANGLERS IN UASC “NO MOTOR” TOURNAMENT ENJOY SUNNY SKIES, FLAT SEAS AND CHALLENGING WINTER FISHING
Inaugural Event Raises Awareness of Carpenteria Marsh
Kayak anglers, float tubers and at least one shore angler waded and paddled into the calm ocean waters near Santa Barbara on Saturday, December 15, hoping to catch and release a bunch of fish that could win them valuable prizes, as well as bragging rights among this close-knit fishing fraternity. In contrast to the event’s original planned date in October — when fierce Pacific storms kicked up huge swells and wind — this was a picture-postcard beautiful Southern California winter morning.

CALIFORNIA FISH & GAME COMMISSION UPHOLDS PINK SHRIMP TRAWL CLOSURE IN STATE WATERS
CALIFORNIA FISH & GAME COMMISSION UPHOLDS PINK SHRIMP TRAWL CLOSURE IN STATE WATERS,
DECEMBER MEETING WILL DECIDE HALIBUT TRAWL FISHERY
Decision to Move Forward With Bottom Trawl Bill Implementation an
Important Victory for Anglers and Californians
CONCORD, Calif. (October 11, 2007) — The California Fish & Game Commission announced it would move forward with the state’s bottom trawl legislation and close the pink shrimp trawl fishery in state waters on January 1, 2008. The decision was announced at today’s commission meeting following testimony from a wide range of stakeholders representing varying viewpoints.
Representatives of United Anglers of Southern California (UASC), an Irvine, California-based sport fishing organization pledged to protect the marine environment and the interests of recreational fishermen, heralded this as an important decision for the health of our coastal waters. “Stopping this destructive commercial fishery is a big win for all of us, and the commission should be commended for moving forward with this closure,” said Tom Raftican, UASC President. The bottom trawl bill (SB1459) — which was signed into law in 2005 by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger — established a timeline for examining and potentially stopping destructive bottom trawl practices in California state waters.

KIDS WIND UP SUMMER WITH A BANG, THANKS TO SPONSORED
KIDS WIND UP SUMMER WITH A BANG, THANKS TO SPONSORED

"FAMILY DAY" TRIP ABOARD DANA PRIDE
DFG Fishing Passport Program and Friends of Rollo/United Anglers Host Youngsters and Families For Good Times and Wide Open Bite
What better way for kids to wind up summer than with a great day on the ocean, enjoying the Southern California sun, fresh ocean breezes and the fun of fishing with friends and family? This was all the reason more than 80 sons, daughters, fathers, mothers and friends needed to board the Dana Pride for an afternoon 1/2-day fishing trip out of Dana Wharf Landing Monday, August 20.
And if this wasn't enough incentive to climb aboard the spacious and fast 95-footer, this trip was designated as a special "Family Day" adventure on the Dana Pride. This meant that the United Anglers/Friends of Rollo youth fishing program covered the cost of the trip and rental tackle for all boys and girls 15 and under. This provided a great opportunity for families to get out on the water together and spend quality time in the great outdoors. Because this trip was coordinated to draw attention to the Department of Fish and Game's ongoing California Fishing Passport Program, DFG representatives Carrie Wilson, Mary Payten and Larry Eng were on hand to distribute Fishing Passport Booklets and educational materials and to stamp kids passports when they caught new fish species.

CONSERVATION AND FISHING ALLIANCE
SPORTFISHING ASSOCIATION OF CALIFORNIA AND SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MARINE ASSOCIATION JOIN CONSERVATION AND FISHING ALLIANCE
Key Stakeholders Groups Join United Anglers of Southern California, Coastside Fishing Club and American Sportfishing Association to Work for Conservation with Recreational Access
IRVINE, Calif. (July 19, 2007) It was announced today that two well-established and successful sportfishing industry groups the Sportfishing Association of California (SAC) and Southern California Marine Association (SCMA) have joined forces with United Anglers of Southern California (UASC), Coastside Fishing Club and the American Sportfishing Association (ASA), three organizations proactively working to ensure healthy marine resources while providing a robust and sustainable recreational fishery for Southern California.
Our goal is to bring Californians marine conservation with great access for recreational fishing and boating, said Tom Raftican, president of UASC. It will take strong partners and a solid alliance to see this through, which is why we recently joined forces with ASA (the leading national sportfishing industry association based in Alexandria, Va.) and our Coastside Fishing Club brothers to the North. Now, two more important industry organizations have joined our growing team. These organizations share a common vision and make what was already a great alliance even better. All of us look forward to working alongside SAC President Bob Fletcher and SCMA President Dave Geoffrey, and welcome their input, energy and participation, added Raftican.
